When an employer issues a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax1099.com\/wage-tax-forms\/efile-w2-online\">Form W-2<\/a> to an employee, the form contains all federal tax information that is required to be reported to the tax authorities. If you made any error to your current or previously issued wage\/tax information (Form W-2), a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax1099.com\/wage-tax-forms\/efile-form-w2c-online\">Form W-2 C<\/a> can be used to make corrections.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Form W-2C?<\/h2>\n<p>Form W-2C is also known as the Corrected Wage and Tax Statement. Employers use it to correct errors on a previously filed Form W-2, W-2 (AS), W-2 (CM), W-2 (GU), W-2 (VI), or W-2 C filed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/\">Social Security Administration<\/a> (SSA).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements for Forms W-2<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The regulations lowered the threshold to 10. That means if the total information returns, including Forms W-2, W-2AS, W-2GU, and W-2VI (collectively Forms W-2), but not Form W-2CM, are more than 10, you must file them electronically.<\/p>\n<h2>Form W-2C Deadline<\/h2>\n<p>You may file corrected information for up to two years preceding the current tax year. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">There <strong>isn\u2019t a specific deadline<\/strong> for filing Form W-2c<\/span>, but it\u2019s important to file it as soon as you discover an error on a previously filed Form W-2. The IRS and Social Security Administration (SSA) recommend correcting any mistakes promptly to avoid potential penalties and also sharing them with affected employees as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>While you may file a correction anytime, here are the deadlines for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-w-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">W-2<\/a> forms.<\/p>\n<p>File before these deadlines to avoid penalties.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deliver Recipient copies by <strong>January 31<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>IRS paper filing should also be done before or within <strong>January 31<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Similarly, if you choose to eFile with IRS, submit the forms by <strong>January 31<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, it will be due the next business day.<\/p>\n<h2>What information can I correct with Form W-2C?<\/h2>\n<p>Form W-2C (Corrected Wage and Tax Statement) is used to correct errors on a previously filed Form W-2. You can use it to fix mistakes related to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"149\" data-end=\"204\">Employee\u2019s name or Social Security Number (SSN)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"205\" data-end=\"257\">Incorrect wages, tips, or other compensation<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"258\" data-end=\"310\">Federal, state, or local income tax withheld<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"311\" data-end=\"359\">Social Security wages and Medicare wages<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"410\">Allocated tips and dependent care benefits<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"411\" data-end=\"462\">Retirement plan and other tax-related boxes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do you correct or void Form W-2C online?<\/h2>\n<p>If you previously filed with Tax1099,<\/p>\n<p>Step 1: <b class=\"fw-400 fs-18 text-dark\">Select the Payer<br \/>\n<\/b>Choose the payer and tax year from the dashboard.<br \/>\n<b class=\"fw-400 fs-18 text-dark\"><\/b><b class=\"fw-400 fs-18 text-dark\"><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Step 2: <b class=\"fw-400 fs-18 text-dark\">Enter the Corrected Information<br \/>\n<\/b>Enter the information you need to correct.
